Last semester we set aside some time each week for students to spotlight their own country and culture. We certainly intend to continue that next fall, but for the next two weeks we’re going to spotlight the great state of Texas! This week we’ll celebrate with boots and boot-scootin’ (country line dancing) and next week will have a Salsa party with music and chips!

Since Valentine’s Day is next Tuesday (guys, don’t forget!), we’ll be celebrating it J1 Café-style this week. Valentine’s Day is a holiday to celebrate those you love, but there are many for whom “B Mine” isn’t sweet. It’s slavery. There are 30 million slaves in the world today, many of whom are trafficked for sex. Therefore, we’ll celebrate this Valentine’s Day holiday not only by talking about love in relationships but also in discussing how love moves us to help those in need. Happy New Year everyone! We hope you all had a great holiday and are ready for the Spring semester to begin. Everyone had a great time at the Vision conference in Washington, DC over New Year’s, and we’re sure you’ll hear all about it from those that went. For those that were at the conference and those that want to see what happened, pictures and several of the lectures from the conference will be available on bivisionconf.com in the coming week.
