There are nearly 700,000 international students studying in the United States, and over half of them are from China, India, South Korea, Canada, and Taiwan. With students from Japan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Vietnam, and Turkey, these top ten sending countries comprise 63.6% of all international students studying in the U.S. As a state, Texas hosts the third largest number of international students next to New York and California, and the University of Texas has the 9th largest international student population of U.S. universities.
With such large and diverse numbers of international students here in Austin, there are many opportunities to connect with and welcome the world that has come to our city. Whether it is merely taking the time to notice when college-aged students who are still learning English need help at the store or signing up to host an international student through UT’s Friendship Program, you can make a difference in the lives of people that have come to Austin from around the world. Please check out the links below to several of these opportunities that are available now. More opportunities will be added as we grow!
